Team day took place at Chiltern Centre yesterday.
We had a visit from a parent (who doesn’t use our services, so was completely independent) who spoke to us for an hour about family life with two young children; one of whom has autism.
The Chiltern Centre staff present found this really enlightening – as it’s always great to see things from others’ perspectives and have a bit of insight into what life can be like for others.
This was a very positive experience and we heard of a strong family unit, with great schooling, lots of support from professionals and family, and at it’s core, two lovely children (one of whom happens to have a disability!).
We were reminded of two things we have posted about on our Facebook page recently:
“See the person first, not the disability”
“If you want to know how to be with a disabled person, look to their sibling, they’ll show you!”
